On My Bed, In the Late Hours of the Night

I've mentioned this in my bio, but to give you more insight into my life, I'll elaborate: I'm a part-time photographer.

During the week I work as a writer. I love writing. And I love photographing people, too. Writing gives me a chance to flex my creative and problem-solving muscles in a totally different way than photography. Plus, I work with some really awesomely smart and inspiring people. I work with my friends.

I also have a son, a husband, three cats and a dog.

So my day looks like this:

Wake up.
Get ready.
Drive to work.
Work. Work. Work.
Drive home.
Play.
Dinner.
Play.
Hang out with Kyle.
Maybe laundry? Maybe dishes?
Bed time.

All of that gets me to here. To where and when I'm writing this right now. The late hours of the night with Henry curled up at my side and the dim glow from my laptop washing over his sweet little face. This is when I dream a little bigger. When I edit photos. When I schedule social posts and blog posts. When I update my website. When I upload galleries and order prints and design albums.

I could be sleeping. Or reading. Or watching Law & Order: SVU. So why do I do it? I like being busy. I like challenging myself. I like taking cool photos and helping people feel beautiful and happy and cool. I like knowing people are looking back at photos I took and remembering.

So I'll stay up late. Not every night. But a lot of nights. I'll keep writing and editing and pausing to watch Henry's round toddler belly rise and fall. Rise and fall.

But it's getting late and I should be getting to bed.

Goodnight, all.

Number One

So, here we are. My first blog post.

I've been putting this off for a long time. For a multitude of reasons. What will I say? Do I even have anything to say? Are my images good enough? Will people care? Do I have the time?

Well, the answers are: whatever I want, yes, yes, I hope so and no, but who does?

Time is the tough one. I've never felt like there was enough time to blog. Yet I've always found the time to document other areas of my life, whether it be through cell phone photos, writing books or emails to myself, or even updating my resume. So, with much contemplation and planning, I've decided that this a journey worth documenting. Not only my own, but my clients (well friends... frients? Cliends?) have awesome stories worth sharing, too.

If you decide to stick with me, follow along or just check in periodically, you'll find my favorite images from weddings, portrait sessions and daily life. I also plan on sharing some tips and tricks, behind the scenes looks and maybe even some personal ramblings. If there's anything you want to see or that you've been wondering about, let me know and maybe it will show up here! I'm all about the team effort.

It's a step outside my comfort zone, but I think it will be fun!

Blogs without photos are boring, so here's a personal one for ya.
